Who Are We?
Science Playhouse is a hands-on science lab and education experience custom designed for kids by STEM professionals and teachers. Our programs offer exciting and engaging science, engineering, robotics, and programming activities for children ages 5-12. They will learn so much, while having fun!
Science Playhouse is founded and run by Irina and Warren Foster, parents of 3 very active and curious children under the age of 10. Irina is an experienced engineer with a Master’s Degree in Science from UC Berkeley. She has worked in several large design and construction companies in the US and overseas. Her passion is teaching and working on sustainable technologies. Warren is a retired Army officer, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. During his successful career, he has worked in the fields of communication, technology and education. Between the two of us, we’ve got STEM covered!
If you trust us with the most precious people in your life, your kids, we will vow to make them feel special and appreciated. We want them to have the best time of their lives with us and come home excited about the cool projects they did!
We live in Colorado Springs and we serve Colorado Springs, Monument, and Castle Rock. We are fully insured and our instructors are background checked, and First Aid/CPR qualified. We are a disabled veteran-owned business.
Where is the SCIENCE?
STEM—science, technology, engineering and math—has become a big buzzword in the last few years. However, our classrooms have not yet realized this potential as evidenced by a 2008 report, in which the US ranked 28th worldwide in math literacy and 24th in science literacy. Combine that with the fact that in US Department of Commerce research, the job growth rate for STEM-related jobs is almost double that of non-STEM occupations, and it’s easy to see that STEM education is essential for our future economy. Not to mention to our kids’ future success!
By giving our kids the tools they need to succeed professionally, we are giving them a leg up as they enter the job market. And while any exposure to STEM is good, research study after research study on STEM education has shown that kids who experience STEM early through hands-on learning are the ones who will be best equipped to develop a strong understanding of STEM concepts as they get older.
Let us introduce your children to STEM in a fun and meaningful way, getting them excited and engaged in a myriad of experiments and projects. Let us teach them an appreciation of science and technology they will need as they get older. We will take them on a journey of discovery, creating a fun and safe learning environment where they feel like a scientist for a day!
